Season 2018/19

Patricia Petibon debuts as Violetta Valéry in La Traviata, Lauritz Melchior International Singing Competition winner Cornelia Beskow sings Senta in The flying Dutchman and Dietrich Henschel sings the part of Luther in the world premiere of Schlag sie tot! 

World renowned soprano Patricia Petibon will debut as Violetta Valéry in the fall of 2018. The production will be directed by actor, film director, cabaret artist etc. Olivier Py.
Swedish soprano Cornelia Beskow, the winner of the 2017 Lauritz Melchior International Singing Competition, will be singing Senta in Richard  Wagner’s The flying Dutchman. It will mark her debut at Malmö Opera.
The world premiere of Bo Holten/Eva Sommestad Holtens opera Schlagt sie tot! will take place on May 11, 2019. The German baritone Dietrich Henschel sings the principal role of Martin Luther.
In the spring of 2019, Malmö Opera and The Royal Opera in Copenhagen will collaborate in the staging of Georg Friedrich Händels Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno. The Danish ensemble Concerto Copenhagen will accompany singers such as Joshua Ellicott and Sonia Prina.

The season will also see productions of the classic Leonard Bernstein musical West Side Story, directed by former ROH director of opera Kasper Holten, as well as the Swedish premiere of Tim Minchins Matilda – The Musical, based on the novel by Roald Dahl.

The most classic of all classic musicals, a Romeo and Juliet set in the 50’s. Scored by Leonard Bernstein, who woud have turned 100 this year.
